News Update

Saturday Breakfast and Donation Collection

Join us Saturday, September 2nd, at 8:30 am for breakfast with your Democratic friends to discuss the busy month ahead. We will meet in the event room at the Flowood Panera Bread on Lakeland Drive. This event is open to the public. We hope you’ll join us and bring a friend!

Studies have shown that millennial voters are more likely to respond favorably to a political figure or group when they are actively engaged in community service, not just running on a platform of supporting it. With this in mind, let’s consider how we can more visibly support civic work in our area.

Unfortunately, our county does not have a nonprofit animal rescue location. We only have the county shelter, which is a holding facility paid for with tax dollars. The Madison Ark runs a network of foster homes in the Rankin/Madison area and hosts many adoption events in our county. Major disasters such as Hurricane Harvey stretch already-thin budgets as organizations work to take in displaced animals from impacted areas. We can support their work during a crucial time by donating materials that most of us already have in our homes.

Please consider bringing one or more of these items to donate at our September 2nd breakfast: newspapers, old towels, blankets, garbage bags, cleaning supplies (bleach, wipes, etc.), paper towels, or buckets. A full list can be found at www.madisonark.org. Please consult for food information, if you are donating food. Items do not have to be new, just clean and in usable condition. Feel free to donate your pet’s old bowl or a half empty box of flea treatments.

Federation of Democratic Women

The Rankin County Federation of Democratic Women will meet on Thursday, September 14th, at the Pearl Library on Old Brandon Road. The guest speaker will be the state Federation of Democratic Women President, Tanya Gray! Please come out at 5:30 pm for the meeting. It is open to the public, and everyone is invited!
