On September 27, Rankin County Democrats co-hosted a phone bank to support our Democratic candidates. Our volunteers made nearly 1,000 phone calls to voters across Mississippi! Thanks to Thelma Lorentz and Ken Neorr for all of their help!

If you want to make calls for our candidates, contact Thelma Lorentz to get a list of voters in your neighborhood and additional information to help your calls be successful. Join us this Saturday, October 4, for a two-part Breakfast with Democrats at the Flowood Corner Bakery. We will have our regular meet and greet as well as our Rankin County Democratic Executive Committee meeting. The breakfast will begin at 8:30 am, and the executive committee meeting will begin at 9:00 am. Everyone is welcome to join! We have some exciting things to discuss!

This year’s voter registration deadline is Saturday, October 4, at noon! You can print out the voter registration form HERE. It must be mailed or hand delivered to the circuit clerk at 215 East Government Street, Suite A, Brandon, MS 39042.

Mark your calendars! Rankin County Democrats are excited to announce that Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley will speak at our fall fundraiser on Saturday, November 8, at 6:00 pm! More details will become available as we get closer to the event. We hope to see you there!

Absentee ballots are now available! If you are 65 years of age or older or plan to be out of the county on Tuesday, November 4, contact the Rankin County circuit clerk at 601-825-1466 to request your absentee ballot. We need every Democrat to stand up and be counted!

Remind your family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and congregation that we need to vote on Tuesday, November 4, for Travis Childers for the United States Senate and Doug Magee for the House of Representatives. We must not let the Republicans gain full control of Congress!

When Democrats vote, we win!

A phone bank has been set up at Mississippi Democratic Party headquarters for Saturday, September 27, from 9:00 am until noon. Party headquarters is located at 832 N Congress Street, Jackson, MS 39202. It is located near the Fortification Street and State Street intersection in downtown Jackson. Come and go as your schedule allows.

We will spend the morning making phone calls to remind voters about Election Day on November 4. Please make every effort to spend some time with us this Saturday to support our Democratic candidates. Each call you make gets us one voter closer to victory.

If you cannot be there, you can always make calls from the comfort of your home. Call Thelma Lorentz at party headquarters at 601-969-2913 to get a list of voters in your neighborhood.

The Republicans do not expect us to be competitive in Mississippi this year or anytime soon. Let’s prove them wrong and send them packing.

The voter registration deadline for this year’s election is noon on Saturday, October 4. We need your family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and congregation to get registered now and to vote on Tuesday, November 4!

Make a personal goal to get five new voters registered by the October 4 deadline. If each of us registers at least five new voters and get them to the polls, we will send the Republicans packing. You can print out the state’s voter registration form by clicking HERE. Again, voter registration forms are due to the circuit clerk no later than noon on Saturday, October 4. We need your help to elect our Democratic candidates Travis Childers to the United States Senate and Douglas Magee to the House of Representatives on November 4. The stakes are too high to allow reckless Republicans to gain full control of Congress. We must not let this happen.

Rankin County Democrats welcomed Travis Childers, our Democratic nominee for the United States Senate, to Brandon on August 14. Nearly 60 Democrats from across the county met at the Brandon Municipal Complex to hear from Mr. Childers about his fight for Mississippi’s working class.

The 2014 Jefferson Jackson Hamer Dinner was held in Jackson on August 15. Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley fired up the crowd of nearly 600 energetic Democrats!

At the dinner, two Rankin County Democrats were recognized for their service to the Democratic Party. The late John Tyson of Brandon was awarded the Evelyn Gandy Lifetime Achievement Award for his lifetime of loyalty, involvement, and commitment to the goals and objectives of the Democratic Party. Augustine Kelly of Pearl was awarded the Fannie Lou Hamer Award which is given to individuals who carry on the work and spirit of civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer. Congratulations, John and Augustine! We are so proud of you!

Election Day is 65 days away! We need all hands on deck to elect Travis Childers to the United States Senate on Tuesday, November 4. Calling all young Democrats in Rankin County! We are organizing a chapter of the Young Democrats of Mississippi right here in Rankin County, and we need your help! We are honored to have Congressman Travis Childers, our Democratic nominee for the United States Senate, coming to Rankin County! Congressman Childers will meet with voters at Brandon City Hall (1000 Municipal Drive, Brandon, MS 39042) on Thursday, August 14. The 2014 Jefferson Jackson Hamer Dinner is just a few weeks away! This year’s keynote speaker is Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley! It is exciting to have such a high-profile Democrat visit Mississippi! This will be one dinner you do not want to miss.

June was a busy and productive month for both Rankin County and Mississippi Democrats!

We conducted our Democratic primaries for the United States Senate and the United State House of Representatives. Our nominee for the Senate is Travis Childers; our nominee for the House is Doug Magee! Congratulations to these two, and we look forward to helping them to victory in November!

Vice President of the Mississippi and Rankin County Federations of Democratic Women and President of Parents Against Personhood Atlee Breland was quoted in the Clarion-Ledger about the United States Supreme Court’s ruling in the case of Hobby Lobby not having to provide contraceptive coverage to its employees. Our community outreach project is still underway! We need volunteers to make phone calls and knock on doors in their precincts to help us identify our strong Democrats across Rankin County. Already, there are several Democratic volunteers in Rankin County helping us call our voters. We still need more volunteers to help! The Rankin County Federation of Democratic Women will not meet during the holiday but will meet again in early August to begin planning our fall candidates’ forum. The Rankin County Democratic Executive Committee will hold its next meeting Tuesday, July 15. We will meet at the County Supervisors Boardroom in downtown Brandon, beginning at 6:00 pm. All are welcome!

The Rankin County Democratic Executive Committee met on May 8 and helped set some events in motion to engage fellow Democrats.

We regret to announce the resignations of James Parker and Richard Baltz from the executive committee. They have been tireless workers for Rankin County Democrats, and we know they won’t be strangers. Many thanks to both James and Richard for their dedicated service.

Rankin County Democrats held a voter contact event at Mississippi Democratic Party headquarters May 15. A special thanks to Thelma Kumar for organizing the event! We were able to reach out to dozens of Rankin County Democrats in hopes of further engaging them in our efforts.
